Why use detection dogs for wildlife research and conservation work ?

Detection dogs can locate samples across large areas with greater efficiency than many traditional methods. Lack of sufficient sample size is often the downfall of many wildlife studies, and using detection dogs in your study can dramatically increase sample size.

Since we are generally collecting by-products and not handling the animals, it is truly noninvasive. Detection dog surveys can help with determining:

  • Density / population estimates
  • Occupancy
  • Habitat use
  • Food habits
  • Sex
  • Stress levels
  • Nutritional status
